DESTINATION
Savoca
This medieval village occupies a splendid position on the top of a bivertice hill and three rocky spurs, on which the districts of San Rocco, San Giovanni and Pentefur are built, which together form a star-shaped town. Savoca was an ancient important religious center, as is evident from the numerous churches all belonging to the fifteenth century. Splendid is the Church of the Capuchin Convent which preserves numerous paintings dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. There you can admire an “Ultima Cena” from the Caravaggio school and, in the crypt, the corpses, elegantly dressed and mummified, of seventeen illustrious men of the city. A particular attraction is the “Vitelli” bar which houses a collection of local handcrafted tools and photos of the scenes from the film “The Godfather”.
